The temperature in Huaraz each year ranges between 24°C (75°F) being the maximum and 7°C (44°F) being the minimum, where the climate usually has two defined seasons. Between May and September, the climate is temperate where they also usually call it “Andean Summer”, a pleasant climate with days of lots of bright sun and cold at dusk.

The rains in the city occur between the months of October and April, where the sun also dazzles us with its clear brightness in the mornings and drizzles in the afternoons.

Winter in Huaraz

The rainy season in Huaraz runs from October to April. However, two periods are distinguished, the first from October to December. Here the rains occur mainly in the afternoons and are of shorter duration. The sun shines in the mornings and the intensity of the downpours increases as December approaches. 

On the other hand, there is the second phase of the rainy season. From December to March, downpours and downpours are not only more frequent, but they last much longer. It is possible that the rain will continue throughout the day, which will make mountain activities difficult. 

Summer in Huaraz

In Huaraz the dry season runs from May to September. The days are full of sunshine and temperatures drop a lot at night. There is a relationship with the clouds, cloudy days are much less cold. 

One of the most common activities when camping in the Cordillera Blanca area is stargazing. It can only be done during the dry season. The days are hotter, but maintaining a pleasant temperature. 

Best time to visit Huaraz

Definitely, the best time to visit Huaraz is between May and September. Although there are many more tourists, trekking routes or any mountain activities are not affected. The lagoons maintain the same water level throughout the year.
